Top Ten Books I'm Excited to Read in 2012

It's 2012 and that means more authors and more books! Since I had a little hard time coming up with my top ten, I cheated and split all the ones I'm really excited for up. There's still a list of ten but some extras added later. I figured it's my blog, so I can :)

10. Untitled (Hush, Hush #4)

by Becca Fitzpatrick

The end is finally coming and I can't wait to see what happens. I'll be sad to see it go but I just want more Patch!

9. Black Heart (Curse Workers #3)

by Holly Black 

I read the first two books in this series in the middle of last year. I feel like I've been without these characters for too long. I want them back!

8. City of Lost Souls (The Mortal Instruments #5)

by Cassandra Clare

With that cliffhanger in City of Fallen Angels? Who isn't dying to get their hands on this?!

7. Timepiece (Hourglass #2)

by Myra McEntire

A lot of books have two boys going after one girl. This isn't exactly like that but kind of. Kaleb is a huge flirt, even though Michael already has Emerson's heart, and I can't get enough. Kaleb makes this series for me, and he didn't even come till at least half way through. But we'll be seeing a lot more of him in the sequel it seems, so how can I not be excited?

6. Untitled (Madly #3)

by M. Leighton

Madly's story is one of my favorites. Leighton has created an original world and I love all the chaos that goes on. Madly's my first mermaid so of course I love her. I also happen to love the man she loves, so, I want her story. NOW. 

5. Clockwork Princess (The Infernal Devices #2)

by Cassandra Clare

Clare knows what she's doing in both her series. This love triangle is probably one of the best I've come across. With Clare, you can't really guess what she's going to hit you over the head with next. That's why I love her stories, and why they make me want to rip my hair out! Jem or Will? Jem or Will? 

4. Pandemonium (Delirium #2)

by Lauren Oliver

The first half of Delirium was SO slow for me. But by the end I was like WHAT??!! Oliver really knows how to create a cliffhanger, or make you want to hunt her down and demand the next book immediately.

3. Untitled (Shatter Me #2)

by Tahereh Mafi

Shatter Me blew me away. There was everything you could want: action, romance, a slightly unknown world, and awesome characters. Give. me. NOW.

2. Waiting for Mercy (Cambion #2)

by Shannon Dermott

Mercy's story is so unique I feel in love with her story from the first couple of pages. Everything I've read in this story has been a surprise and with all the men floating around, I'm always interested. Mercy has herself in more than one debacle and waiting to see what happens next is killing me.

1. Taken at Dusk (Shadow Falls #3)

by C.C. Hunter

This might be one of my favorite series ever. I'm drawn to the camp, the characters, all their unique situations, and all the craziness that's happening. We're trying to find out what Kylie is along with Kylie. She doesn't know exactly where her heart belongs, and strange things are still happening. There are even other characters that have strange things happening. I think because of all the different relationships and multiple trials that are happening in this story, I'm completely hooked.

The Golden Lily (Bloodlines #2)

by Richelle Mead

Even though I haven't read the last VA book yet, or read the first in this series, I'm pumped for this book to come out. I love Adrian and since he's a main character in this, I couldn't be more excited. I knew Rose would end up with Dimitri and since Adrian is one of my favorite characters, I'm not THAT devastated for VA to end. 

Tempest (Tempest #1)

by Julie Cross

This book is about people in college and since I'm a recent college grad, I feel like this book could be more relatable to me than other YA books are. It's also about time travel and love, so duh, I'm excited.

Everneath (Everneath #1)

by Brodi Ashton

Having six months to choose to fight to live with your family, friends and boyfriend on Earth, or give in and live in the underworld with a sexy immortal? I think this is going to be a good one. YES, PLEASE!

Desinty's Fire 

by Trisha Wolfe

This is about shape-shifters (my favorites) and it's set in the future. She's one of the last of her kind and the enemy has better access than ever to her home. It sounds like there's training, fighting, and even romance in this novel. Woohoo :)

Luckily, I seem to know who my favorites are because I only exceeded the list by one! Picking one to leave out was hard, but I managed to find my absolute top ten. Not in a certain order.

(Not all, probably majority actually, didn't come out this year)

1. City of Bones by Cassandra Clare
Jace *swoon* what else is there to say? Besides Magnus, who is undoubtably my favorite character ever. So much action in these books.

2. Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi
This book was different and it grabbed me and wouldn't let go.

3. Beg for Mercy by Shannon Dermott
Soo many boys, loved every minute of this! My first real Succubus book ever too and it's so interesting to learn about Mercy.

4. Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire
This just seems how contemporary romances are and I liked that a lot.

5. Divergent by Veronica Roth
Anything about facing your fears is interesting.


6. Madly and Wolfhardt  by M. Leighton
Jackson is added to top 5 book boyfriends and Madly is a character I love reading about. My first mermaid book and it won't be my last.


7. Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
Who doesn't love these books?

8. Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead
 So glad I gave in and finally picked this up. This series has so much going on it's hard to be bored (Ok, well maybe in the fourth book a little but I ignore that hehe)

9. Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick
I can't say what it is about this book that I love the series so much, but I know Patch is part of it.


10. Born at Midnight  by C.C. Hunter
I CANNOT wait for the third book in this series. Derek, Derek, Derek!



Honorable mention to Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver. This book was moving and one of personal growth that I've never seen to this magnitude. One I would recommend to anyone, especially high schoolers!

Top Ten Books I Want To Give As Gifts 

(and to who...even if I won't actually give them!)

1. Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver - to my teen cousin. I wish I had this book when I was in middle school or high school! It's such a moving story.

2. Good in Bed (Cannie Shapiro #1) by Jennifer Weiner - I haven't actually read this one but I have a two friends who don't know each other and they both like the same kinds of books. One of them (Nicole) recommended this to me to I'm recommending it to Katie.

3. Beg for Mercy (Cambion Series #1) by Shannon Dermott - to my youngest sister. This is definitely a book she would love because there is enough action to keep her interested! and lots of boys :D

4. SEAL Team Six: Memoirs of an Elite Navy SEAL Sniper by Howard E. Wasdin & Stephen Templin - I haven't actually read this one either but it sounds so good and something my dad would really enjoy!

5. Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire - I throw a lot of my paranormal/fantasy YA books at my sister and I think she gets a bit tired of them so I would recommend this one. It's a contemporary romance that I fell in love with!

I can't think of any other to give to specific people so these are just others I would give away to anyone:

6. Shatter Me (Shatter Me #1) by Tahereh Mafi - I loved this books originality. Everything from the writing style to the plot. Amazing.

7. The Hunger Games Trilogy by Suzanne Collins - One of the best series I've ever read. Hands down. 

8. Born at Midnight (Shadow Falls #1) by C.C. Hunter - I'm also completely in love with this series. I think this series deserves more recognition than it gets!

9. Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert - I have to say this book has played a big part of the person I am today. Will always suggest this one.

10. Madly (Madly #1) by M. Leighton - anyone that loves Indie authors will love this book. She's one of my favorite Indie authors and has some great series!

Top Ten Books on My TBR List for Winter

So all of my books will be new releases between now and the end of March. I already have so many on my shelf that need read, but it's more fun to think about what's coming :)

Top Ten Books on My TBR List for Winter

1. Clockwork Prince (Infernal Devices #2) by Cassandra Clare - after that cliffhanger in Clockwork Angel, who isn't waiting this release? I've heard it's her best book yet too! Dec 6th

2. The Eternal Starling (Emblem of Eternity #1) by Angela Corbett - I'm really excited for this book because the characters are in college, which is closer to my age than most of the YA I read. Dec. 6th

3. Shattered Souls by Mary Lindsey - Not only does the book sound good but I'm in love with the cover.  Dec. 8th

4. Everneath (Everneath #1) by Brodi Ashton - I don't think I've read much about the underworld. Especially about characters that go back and forth between realms freely. This should be interesting. Jan. 3rd

5. Bloodrose (Nightshade #3) by Andrea Cremer - I'm only 3/4 of the way through the first and I'm hooked. Will definitely be crying for this by it's release date! Jan. 3rd

6. Destiny's Fire by Trisha Wolfe - anything with shape shifters intrigues me. Jan 10th

7. Tempest (Tempest #1) by Julie Cross - Ok, college characters and time travel. Sold.  Jan 17rd

8. Fever (The Chemical Garden Trilogy #3) by Lauren DeStefano - part way through the first book and sadly I've read a couple of spoilers, so I know I'll be excited for this book. Feb. 21st

9. Pandemonium (Delirium #2) by Lauren Oliver - with the ending to Delirium, I'm getting this AS SOON is it comes out. I was tempted to evil things to Lauren Oliver when I finished Delirium. March 6th

10. Spellcaster (Spellbound #2) by Cara Lynn Shultz - I can't explain why I liked this series so much. Because it was different? Or because of Brendan? Regardless, I'm getting this when it comes out. March 27th

Top Ten Reads That Were Outside My Comfort Zone

Yes, yes, I know it's not Tuesday. But I just took the GRE (an exam to get into grad school) so I'm a little behind, oh well :) 

This week is books read that were outside of our comfort zones. I'm not sure I have ten of these, but I'll give it a try.

1. Hushed by Kelley York - I've never read a book where the main character was gay, or maybe in this case, bisexual? I'm still reading it so I'm not 100% sure yet. 

2. The Iron Daughter  by Julie Kagawa - I'm really into the paranormal, but not usually the fantasy. I tried reading Lord of the Rings and I know people are going to hate me for saying this but.... I couldn't get through it :/ Harry Potter I loved so I thought I'd give this fantastical world a try. I'm glad I did because I love this series! 

3. Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire - I'm not into contemporary romances because I thought they were probably cheesy and not really that interesting. Well, I saw some rave reviews about this one so I though it'd try it. Amazing! I've seen people say it's great and if all contemporary romances are like these, then I think this book converter me. p.s. - I used the ebook cover pictures because I absolutely love it. She's changed it since then because I guess a lot of people didn't like it. But it's one of my favorites!

4. The Shack by William P. Young - I NEVER read books about religion. Usually, because I hate being preached to. This one was ok though.

5. Radiance by Alyson Noel - This is a middle grade book. I mostly read YA. I think if I was in middle school I would have really liked it. 

6. Matters of the Heart by Danielle Steele - my sister recommended this book to me and I don't usually read her books. Like ones about romance and adult issues and whatnot. 

7. Blood Like Poison by M. Leighton - She was my first Indie author read and I'm so glad she introduced me to the Indie world! Her books are fabulous and she writes one of my favorite series! I thought Indie authors would be boring or unoriginal or not good because they weren't published. BOY WAS I EVER WRONG! 

8. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson - I'm not really into thrillers or books that could scare me, or creep me out (and yes this book did both). But it was recommended to me while I was abroad and it seemed so popular I had to try it!

9. Samson's Lovely Mortal by Tina Folsom - I was never into the adult, paranormal romance books before this. But now I seem to really like them - don't judge me! lol 

Ok, so I'm one short! Ah, oh well, if I searched really hard I might be able to find one but I'm ok with only having 9. I think this is an awesome post! I'm excited to see what everyone else puts. Some of the comments are halarious.

Top Ten Books That Left Me With My Mouth Hanging Open

Yes, I'm a little late on this one, oh well! I've been so busy this week but I've finally gotten around to it. I'm lucky I did it at all really. 

So this one might be hard because I'm going to not give away any spoilers, so I'm going to have to watch my ramblings!

1. Mockingjay by Suzanna Collins - for anyone that's read this series, yes, I'm talking about the end of this entire series. I couldn't believe who she ended up with! Looking back on it, it was the right choice, but I was definitely the other guys team. And **slight spoiler***** different districts? ***** you probably won't understand what I mean anyways unless you've read the end of the books. But promise, only slightly spoilery thing.

2. City of Fallen Angels by Cassandra Clare - I know everyone who's read this series agrees with me on this one. Really, Cassandra? REALLY? I have no idea where this relationship is leading now.

3. Crescendo by Becca Fitzpatrick - Just when things were getting happy again too! :(

4. The Iron Queen by Julie Kagawa - Thank goodness there is a fourth book in this series and I found out about it before I read this book, or I would still be bawling my eyes out.  

5. Delirium by Lauren Oliver - This one produced the most tears of any other book ending I think I've ever read. If there wasn't another book after this, I would have seriously questioned Oliver's sanity in leaving so many people broken-hearted and confused! AWFUL (but amazing) ending!

6. Shade by Jeri-Smith Ready - Even though I sort of expected, ok I didn't expected, I was more hoping because I didn't think at all it would happen, but it did. At that point in time though I was kind of just like, 'Really? Come on, quit switching things around.' 

7. The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin - This one wasn't a big one but I just read it recently and it's fresh in my mind. This was kind of brought on because of the feeling I was getting throughout the whole book. I keep thinking something would be explained and then it wasn't.... so I was like WTF?! There will be another though, so hopefully I'll get my questions answered!

8. Wolves of Mercy Falls Series by Maggie Stiefvater - I don't remember which book exactly because I read them all right after another really, but after one, I remember thinking, 'Wow, what a cliff hanger.'

That's all that I can come up with. Either, I haven't read enough books in my lifetime to come up with a better list, author's don't write a lot of OMG endings, or my memory sucks. All I think are likely. I really think that one of the books in The House of Night Series by P.C. & Kristin Cast should be on this list, but there are so many of them there's no way I would be able to tell you which one. This kind of just a guess too :)

I have to say that I accidently clicked on an old Top Ten Tuesday but since I already did my list I figured I'd just leave it for this week. I'll get on top of things next week.

Top Ten Books I Want Made Into Movies 

1) The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins- Ok, I cheated because this one already is becoming a movie, but I'm so excited for the movie that I had to add it. If I remember correctly it comes out March 2012 - not soon enough!

2) The Mortal Instruments Series by Cassandra Clare - cheated again because it's becoming a movie too. Even though I have no idea when it's release date it. Jace is one of my favorite characters ever though so I'm really nervous to see him on screen. I don't want it to ruin how I think about him. Excited none-the-less though!

3) Divergent by Veronica Roth - This is one of my favorite book so fall times, so it makes sense I would want to see it as a movie too. (Even though I really hate it when movies are awful compared to the books.) The thing I would be most interested to see is the world, not the characters. What would Dauntless look like?

4) Born at Midnight by C.C. Hunter - I don't know why but I love books about camps. There is such a mix of faeries, werewolves, witches, vampires, etc that it'd be interesting to see them all in one movie.

5) The Iron Fey Series by Julie Kagawa - This world is so fantastical that I would love to see how everything looks. A place covered mostly in snow and ice has to be beautiful, right along with the spring lang were there's probably trees and lush green grass everywhere. I'd love to see these worlds Kagawa has created.

6) The Curse Workers Series by Holly Black - this would be a really fun movie because everyone is so deceiving in this series! Everyone is human too and wears gloves so it'd be fun to just watch everyone try and con each other.

7) Madly and Wolfhardt by M. Leighton - I've never seen a mermaid movie (Besides the Little Mermaid) so I'd be really anxious to see what an underwater world would look like. Plus, they spend half their time on land so I'd love to see transitioning from one world to another. Also, Jackson sounds like an amazing guy and I'd love to see him in person!

8) Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire - This book is set in a college town and since I just recently graduated from college, I'd love to see this book come to life. This story was fast paced and I'd really love to see all these fights scenes come to life, which is weird because I hate it when people fight in real life, but movies are different I guess :)

9) Shade Series by Jeri Smith- Ready - I'd love to see what these violet ghosts look like!

10) The Infernal Devices Series by Cassandra Clare - I didn't want to put an author on here twice but Victorian historical fiction is a little bit of a weakness of mine. I'd also love to see Jem's silvery hair :)
