Review: Hushed

Title: Hushed
Author: Kelley York
Rating: 3.5 of 5 stars

Goodreads Description:
He’s saved her. He’s loved her. He’s killed for her.

Eighteen-year-old Archer couldn’t protect his best friend, Vivian, from what happened when they were kids, so he’s never stopped trying to protect her from everything else. It doesn’t matter that Vivian only uses him when hopping from one toxic relationship to another—Archer is always there, waiting to be noticed.

Then along comes Evan, the only person who’s ever cared about Archer without a single string attached. The harder he falls for Evan, the more Archer sees Vivian for the manipulative hot-mess she really is.

But Viv has her hooks in deep, and when she finds out about the murders Archer’s committed and his relationship with Evan, she threatens to turn him in if she doesn’t get what she wants… And what she wants is Evan’s death, and for Archer to forfeit his last chance at redemption.

My take:

This book is very original. I don't think I've ever read anything like it before. I think a big part of that fact is that the main character, Archer, is bisexual. And this made the story very interesting to read because I've never read a story about bisexual main characters before, so it was nice to get something new.

This story was a little gory and I'm not usually a big fan of that, but this wasn't too bad. What was most intriguing about the book was the way the characters think. Archer seems to have a flaw in his thinking pattern, because he finds excuses to kill people. Evan challenges him on those thoughts though and it makes Archer think twice about doing it again. Although I won't say if he does or not.

Even though Vivian bothered me, I do think her personality was very human. I liked Evan's personality too because he was constant, but Archer was a little hard to figure out sometimes. I couldn't really understand what attracted Evan to Archer. I mean I see why Archer would be attracted to Evan, but I couldn't figure out what kept Evan around.

Overall, this is a great story and one I would definitely recommend for someone who wants something completely different!

This book will be released December 6!
